Honoring the Heart of Camp

Each year, the American Camp Association, New York and New Jersey recognizes individuals who go above and beyond to strengthen the camp community. From visionary leadership to emerging voices, our awards celebrate those who embody the values of camp and make a lasting impact. We invite you to nominate a colleague for one of our five local awards and help us shine a light on the people who make camp extraordinary.

Legends of Camping

A lifetime achievement award honoring inspirational camp professionals who have served for 20+ years, held key leadership roles, and made a lasting impact through mentorship and service beyond their own camp. Honorees must be ACA Members in good standing from Accredited Camps. Presented annually at the Tri-State CAMP Conference.

Thelma Hurwitz Tri-State Leadership Award

Honoring the legacy of Tri-State Camp Conference founder Thelma Hurwitz, this award celebrates individuals who have made a lasting impact on ACA, NY & NJ through visionary leadership, dedicated service, and a commitment to the advancement of camping. Presented annually at the Tri-State CAMP Conference.

Michael Gordon Young Leaders Award

Recognizing emerging leaders in the camp profession, this award honors young professionals (age 30 and under) or individuals supporting the growth of early-career camp professionals. It celebrates rising talent and dedication to the future of the field. Presented annually at the Fall Conference.

Howard Patton Award

Given in memory of Howard Patton, this award recognizes individuals whose leadership has positively impacted campers and elevated the profession. Honorees are mentors, innovators, and champions of the organized camping experience. Presented bi-annually at the Morry Stein Fall Management Conference.

Harold Breene Youth Education Award

This award highlights individuals, programs, or camps that demonstrate exceptional dedication to youth development. Honorees create unique environments where young people can grow, explore, and thrive through the camp experience. Presented bi-annually at the Joe Kruger Fall Youth Development Conference.
